Sailing the Suez Canal – Day 31

Well………it was fun going through the Suez Canal. But, it is nothing at all like the Panama Canal. There is not much to keep your attention. There is lots of sand on both sides of the ship. On one side is the Sinai Peninsula which appears to be a whole bunch of sand. On the other side is the Nile River delta which has a lot of green areas but from our vantage point, just more sand. Then there is a large town, the town of Ishmael, followed by more canal until Port Said. It was worth going through but I’m not sure the trip would be a highlight if you ever had to go through again.

Egypt gets about $15 million from 70 ships passing through the canal each day. It is by far the largest single revenue source for the state of Egypt. There are lots of military along the canals. Where there is lots of money, military follows.

Tomorrow we dock in Alexandria, Egypt!
