Bay of Bengal - Day 13

We cruised out of the Andaman Sea passing Great Nicobar Island and into the Bay of Bengal as we head towards Cochin, India. We’ll be at sea for the next three days. It continues to be hot and very humid. We haven’t spent any time out in the sun as it is just too uncomfortable. The ship has a covered open-air promenade on Deck 5 with good-size deck chairs with thick pads where we spend a large part of our day reading. We saw dolphins several times throughout the day and some kind of tiny fish that comes up out of the water, skims along the surface of the ocean for about ten feet and then dives back into the water.

The food on the ship has been pretty good. We’ve been eating breakfast in the main dining room and our lunches at the pool grill. For dinner, in addition to the main dining room and the buffet, the ship has two specialty restaurants, a steakhouse and a Mediterranean one with an emphasis on fish. Both have been superb. Tonight we ate in the Mediterranean one and had the tasting menu which featured a glass of different wine with each course. While it was excellent, it was just too much food and we probably won’t be doing the tasting menu again. The ship offers a different complimentary red and a white wine each night. You can also purchase wine from their extensive list which includes selected bottles at 50% off the normal price. We’ve been doing a lot of the 50% bottles.

Hello from Jeff

As you are all aware, my skills lie in verbal communication while Ron is the master of the written word.

However, we both share editorial control of our BLOG, well at least until Ron Ron posts it behind my back. Just kidding everyone.

The weather has been pretty uncomfortable so that most of our activities have been indoors on the ship.

Ron and I formed our own team for Trivia games and we did great until they did a Pictionary style one that was a listing of 10 flags and we had to name the countries. Well disaster struck, we had answered 17 of 20 questions correctly up to then but we failed to identify 8 of the ten flags including Greece! Oh well, where was Dr. Klahr when we needed him.

Ron Ron’s time on Cruise Critics has really paid off. We have met and dined with several different couples from all over the world and the discussions have been lively and interesting.
The ship’s captain is very young and not bad looking and he sets a tone of informality that the crew follows. They do everything they can to make the trip fun and comfortable.

We are doing our second sommelier dinner tonight. The wine parings have been pretty good and as Ron told you the food especially at dinner is great.

Alright, I am being told to stop writing so much that I am boring all of you. We are about to get ready for a tour of the bridge that we were invited by special invitation, that means we paid so much for our stateroom they want to make sure we feel special. LOL

  2. Hello Guys!
What do you do - get up before everyone else and take pictures? The decks are always empty. Or does everyone stay inside? Just that it was odd-funny.
This looks like a perfect trip for you.
    Luv - R&B
