The car service sent an Escalade to pick us up at our house at around 9:30 a.m. We got checked in and through security with no issues (did you know you no longer have to pull out your toiletries anymore?)
Of course, we arrived at the gate two hours early so we read the NY Times and Time magazine off our Kindles. American Airlines had upgraded us to first class, so our short flight to Los Angeles was enjoyable. We had arranged a car service through our hotel to pick us up at the airport. We were met at baggage claim by a representative from the hotel who immediately wanted to know what kind of refreshment we would like waiting for us when we arrived at the hotel (the first time something like that has EVER happened to us.) The car arrived, luggage loaded and off we went. They had sent a 760 BMW – what a car!
The Peninsula Hotel Beverly Hills is just off Wilshire Blvd on little Santa Monica Blvd. Quite beautiful and more luxurious than the Four Seasons, if that’s possible. They do check-in in your room. American Express had arranged for our room to be upgraded. Jeff was saying that after you add in the room-upgrade, the free breakfast, the free car service to the airport, the fruit in the room, he’s not sure how the hotel makes any money.

We walked over to the Century City mall to do some last minute shopping, had lunch at Houston’s (our favorite every-day restaurant from New York is also here), returned to the hotel for martini’s in the bar and then up to the room to watch American Idol over dim sum.
Day 1 wasn’t so bad……..
Tomorrow, meeting Rick and Barbara for lunch (Barbara’s law firm is right next door to our hotel) before catching our 17- hour flight to Singapore.
