Bangkok, Thailand - Day 8

Some pictures of our room and the views from our window. We started the day early with a buffet breakfast down by the river.

The little boats that take you from one side of the river to the other.

Jeff hired a long boat to take us through the canals of Bangkok and then over to see the Grand Palace. Bangkok has alot of poverty with people living under tin sheets.

Wat Arun is named for Aruna, the Indian god of dawn. This is where King Taksin arrived at sunrise in 1767 to establish this area as Siam's new capital.

We finally arrived at the Grand Palace which includes Wat Phra Kaeo. As you can see, it is quite a sight! In 1782 Rama I built Wat Phra Kaeo to house the Emerald Buddha and then in 1784 built the Grand Palace.

At Wat Pho, we viewed the reclining Budda. It is 151 ft long and 50 ft high.

On the way home, our cab driver got lost. Not many people speak English in this country unlike Singapore where everyone spoke it. It was a tense ride for a while as we went in circles. Bangkok is very congested and the roads don't run in a logical manner. We finally made it home. I went to the pool to cool off while Jeff went for a massage. We met up at an afternoon high tea. Jeff got the shopping bug again, so off we went across the river to walk along some of the shopping areas. It was a great day in an exciting city.

Hey Ron, when you have time, can you call Loren? It is not a big deal, he just has a question for you.
