Taormina, Sicily - Day 49

We awoke this morning in the beautiful bay below the cliffs of Taormina, Sicily located near the foot of Mt. Etna. We tendered in to Naxos and grabbed a cab to take us around the bay and up into the village.

Look who we met as we waited for the Greco-Roman Theatre to open! Our friends Phil and Annemarie from Mill Valley, California were cruising aboard the Eurodam which docked today in Messina and they came over to Taormina to see us.

We spent the next few hours together strolling the streets. Phil climbed to the top of a tall hill to see a sanctuary from 1640 called Madonna della Rocca while the rest of us had pastries in a café off of one of the piazzas. It was a great day!

We are thinking that this would be a great town to revisit on a land tour and stay for a few days near a beach.
