Dubrovnik, Croatia - Day 55

Cruising along the Croatian coast approaching Dubrovnik was a beautiful experience. The mountains and islands are all craggy shaped and very green this time of the year. Dubrovnik is tucked in a little bay surrounded by old, very tall medieval walls. During the 1991 war, most of the city was destroyed and has been completely rebuilt.

We took a shore excursion to the small seaside town of Cavtat. Along the way, we stopped at a family-owned winery where we sampled some Croatian wines and cheeses. Cavtat is very picturesque and peaceful. I think it would be nice to come back here sometime and spend a few nights at one of their resorts. We caught a large schooner and sailed from Cavtat along the coastline into the old harbor of Dubrovnik. We then had a short walking tour of the old city before our guide departed.

We had a wonderful time wandering the streets. Lots of people climbed the very steep stairs up to the walls that surround the city to walk along the perimeter. We took one look at the huge stairway and decided to head to one of the piazzas for some wine and a long leisurely lunch. While the ship was not leaving until 10:00pm, we decided to call it a day and headed back to the ship around 4:30pm since we were feeling the effects of being in ports for the last four days straight.

Croatia is definitely a place that requires another visit and we can’t wait to come back.

  1. This city is very pretty, I think I would like to visit. By the way, Loren says that you look like Indiana Jones in that hat. Very stylish with the sun glasses.
