Well today was what one thinks as a typical weather day in Seattle. It was overcast, gray and rain looked like it would start at any moment. We headed out to take a look at the Pioneer Square area. We had read that this area had deteriorated in the last few years. Boy were they right. Lots of homeless people asking you for help.
We stopped to see if we could get on the first tour of the underground city. The tour was just starting, but since it would take an hour and half, we were worried that with the impending rain, it would take up too much of our day. Instead, we walked down to the waterfront and caught a ferry to Bainbridge Island to walk around Winslow. The ferry ride provides terrific views of the Seattle skyline. The ride over was just a little more than a half hour and was smooth.
Just as we arrived to the island, the skies opened with a strong downpour. We decided to forego walking around wet Winslow and just got back on the ferry. The return ride was particularly raucous as game time was in an hour and all the Seahawk fans living on the island were on their way to the game.
Once back on the mainland, the rain had stopped so we caught a cab over to the original Nordstroms as I needed some more long pants for the trip. The store is huge, especially the men's section. We found exactly what I needed and then walked over to the attached mall and had lunch at Gordon Biersch's.
After enjoying our salads, we were walking back to our hotel, when we saw the monorail station. Neither one of us had ever ridden the monorail, so we decided to do it. The ride takes you from downtown over to the Space Needle. The trip was very short. We disembarked to walk around the park located around the Space Needle. They have a museum dedicated to pop culture and music but they wanted $20 each to go inside and we didn't have a huge interest in seeing it, so we passed. Jeff wanted to go up in the Space Needle but I knew I wouldn't be able to survive the glass elevators. So we rode the monorail back to downtown.
On the way back to our hotel, we passed a Goorin Bros. hat store. We both found Panama-style hats we liked, so now I think we've each got more hats on this trip than we have pants!
We skipped going out to dinner tonight and just ordered up some sandwiches so that we could organize our luggage for tomorrow's ordeal of getting to the ship. Good night!
