I forgot to mention that our hotel, The Peninsula, is incredible. It is everything you've ever heard about it. Eating breakfast in the lobby was nice amongst all the palm tree plants and the crowds coming and going.
We headed back to Hong Kong island to go up to the top of Victoria Peak for a view of the city from above. Our taxi delivered us atop the mountain and we found this bizarre building which was basically a mall with a observation deck atop it. The views are indeed super. The day was overcast, as Hong Kong tends to be most of the time, but we still could see a great deal.
One of the high end restaurants inside the observation building......we choose to skip this dining experience.
You can walk around the entire top of the mountain. There are wonderful wooded lanes and paths of various steepness levels. Most people opt to come up and down the mountain via the tram. The sight lines during the ride are not the best, so we had decided to only do the down portion. It is a long, steep ride down being pulled by a single cable. Quite fun!
Our tickets were still valid for the hop-on, hop-off bus, so we headed via the bus to the antique street we missed yesterday. Jeff was in horse heaven. He even talked about going back to work so he could afford to buy more horses than he did. But that thought passed very quickly.
We made it to the metro and came up in an area above our hotel so that we could see the Jade Market. We somehow missed that area and instead walked down the Temple Street night market which was not yet open. It was sort of like walking around South Beach in Miami during the morning, not much point.
We headed back to our hotel to rest a bit before we headed up to the 28th floor of our hotel to Felix for drinks. The bar offered amazing views of Hong Kong. Afterwards, we went downstairs for the Peninsula buffet. Their buffet was appetizers only, then a waiter served you a soup and your entree tableside. Then it was buffet for dessert. I sort of liked this method. The meal was awesome and Jeff had arranged for a window table so we could see the light and laser show at 8:00p.m. that goes on nightly in the harbor.
Another great day!
