Monte Carlo, Monaco

We docked right in the main harbor! Very cool to be right in amongst all the mega-yachts. Our stateroom was ideally situated to view the Casino and Hotel de Paris. The ship did there version of an outdoor BBQ - white table clothes, crystal, china and a floor show. It was quite spectacular eating out under the stars and the lights of Monte Carlo.

Since we had been here previously, we skipped visiting the Royal Palace and the Casino again. The next day we took a shore excursion to the Maight Foundation and then on to Saint Paul de Vence. The Maights set up an institute for artists in the foothills above Nice. One of their in-house artists happened to be Miro! Good choice. Tons of his artwork and statuary adorn the grounds. We then walked over to the medieval town of Saint Paul de Vence. Lots of cobblestone and very nice galleries. Jeff was in heaven. We had lunch at a Michelin starred restaurant. Jeff found a cool wine shop located in a dungeon-like space. We had a case of wine shipped home. We then headed over to Grasse where they make perfume. Interesting process of how the essence of flowers is extracted. Finally, we headed back to Monte Carlo. We approached it from the Upper Corniche. Way cool and way high above the city. Down and down and down we went winding our way back to the ship.

We cruised away at 10:00 p.m. watching the sparkling lights of the city get smaller and smaller. It was truly a great day.
