We disembarked today. After a late breakfast onboard, we headed for the Ritz Carlton for a two-night stay. The hotel is located at Port Olimpic which is the area where the athletes were housed during the summer 1992. Upon arrival, you take an elevator up to the main lobby. At the check-in desk, we were told to please proceed to the 33rd club floor. We were greeted by a woman offering us champagne and cranberry juice and asked us to have a seat in the beautiful lounge. The lounge overlooked all of Barcelona and it was quite a stunning site. We were handed our room keys and rode up to the 34th to an incredible two-room suite with a three-sided view of Barcelona.
After getting our stuff situated in the room, we headed out again to an area called Eixample. This area has many Art Nouveau buildings, the most famous being Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. The church has been under construction since 1883. We went up into the spires of the church where you can then walk outdoors from one spire to another across little foot bridges. I did one and then quickly headed down the spiral staircase leaving Jeff leaning over the edge taking pictures.
We headed over to Passeig de Gracia to see Casa Mila, Gaudi’s eight-floor apartment building. The wave-like façade is quite impressive.
