Our luggage was picked up from inside our room at 7:00AM while we were at breakfast and at 8:30AM, we were on our way to Regensburg. Tauck provided four 50 seat buses to transport us and placed 30 people in each. This gave us plenty of room to spread out and be comfortable.
It was great to not have to stress a little about lugging luggage around. We won't see our stuff until later tonight when we arrive to our stateroom. All we had to worry about was our camera bag for the day.
One of the Tauck directors gave a running commentary while we left the Czech Republic and headed back into Germany. The trip was four hours and about half way we made a pit stop for twenty minutes. In addition, we were provided water and some Czech sugar cookies.
About 12:15PM, we arrived in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg. The city was once a Celtic settlement and later a campsite of the Roman legions. We were led into the city center and then had two hours on our own.
We decided to have lunch in the courtyard of a medieval building before wandering the narrow lanes of the city center.
At 2:15PM, we met up with our group and local tour guides. We were broken into groups of around 20 people, given our VOX boxes and we set off for a historical walk around the town. Our guide was a Canadian who has lived in Regensburg for 30 years. She was full of terrific stories of the city's history.
The Danube has been too low for river boats to navigate outside of Regensburg. So instead of walking onto our river boat from town, we had to reboard our bus and take an hour's drive downriver to the town of Vilshofen. We boarded the MS Savor, have unpacked, had a terrific dinner and are now sitting in our gorgeous stateroom. We set sail for Passau at around 4:30AM tomorrow morning.
I'll get some photos of the river boat tomorrow.
Goodnight.
